Henry Drew
Hardworking and quiet, Henry is the spitting image of a talented animator, always covered in ink and with a few pens in his pockets... Who could ask anything more from such an vital employee? As head animator, Henry takes his job very seriously, sometimes too seriously, he always says he just has a good work ethic but staying by his canvas working until he can't see straight is rather extreme by most standards. When he's well rested however, Henry is a rather calm and kind individual.
He never really talks much but Norman will tell you he's a wonderful listener, such a naturally talented artist and when he speaks he's usually got something important to say. Similarly to the projectionist, he's the type of person who constantly has something on his mind, whether it be what feedback to give on the latest storyboards on his desk or a new character idea, whatever Henry's cooking up in his mind, it's almost always bound to be something worth the wait.
But while he's got a good head on his shoulders, Henry does sometime struggle under the idea he only got his placement as head animator due to his brother Joey being the founder and CEO of the company. Henry is technically co-founder but most would never know unless told, as unlike Joey, Henry doesn't consider himself much of a people person. He prefers to sit in front of his desk and draw his days away, rather than perform the kind of theatrics Joey had always been fond of. His role in managing the company is... Minimal to say the least.
Though Henry has tried to play a more active role in managing the business side of things a few times, Joey dismisses him every time, it’s frustrating to say the least. Joey just can’t seem to remember that Henry isn’t just his baby brother anymore, he’s his business partner and his friend. Henry has complained to some of his closer friends about the feeling of being treated like a child or even a son by his boss, but the conclusion always ends in Henry deciding it’s probably not something that will ever change and therefore an outright confrontation just isn’t worth it. It’s fine, really.
Though the shadow cast over him by Joey does bother him, Henry does his best to not hold it against his brother, after all they’ve always been a double act and at the end of the day they always will be. Even if some people fail to give Henry the credit he deserves...
Joey Drew
Excitable and loud, Joey is either a madman, a pending asylum patient or an artist ahead of his time depending on who you ask. With a rather animated personality and an interesting choice of clothing, Joey runs this studio with a smile and wink his employees love.
It's no secret to most Henry was inspired by his energetic and smiley older brother when he created Bendy, but despite how much of an open book most think he is, Joey can hide his fair share of secrets. While it's something his employees know, Joey is smart enough to know the world he lives in isn't ready to know that when their music director first joined the studio... He and Joey had a rather close relationship from the moment they saw each other. It's a shame they can't be too public about their marriage but they are also lucky to be able to be married at all, thanks to Sammy's birth sex allowing them to slip by legally.
With just a pencil and a dream Joey is determined to use his voice, art and charms to bring Bendy to life, all of course with the goal of bringing joy to everyone around him. Even when the world can seem empty and grey.
Sammy Lawrence
Elegant, confident and straight forward, Sammy is the spitting image of what people envision when the title of conductor or music director comes up. A man who knows what he wants and will be unhappy if he doesn’t get it. A man with a strong vision of his art and is impatient with those who don’t see it. He’ll be even more unhappy if anyone dared to imply what he does isn’t art, lucky for most Joey is by his side to stop him from throttling anyone for such comments.
Yes, Sammy is quite the character, to contrast his husband’s constant smile Sammy has a near permanent frown he wears around the studio and his life. Many question how such different characters could come together and decide to spend the rest of their lives together, Sammy usually responds saying when he first met Joey he almost couldn’t believe someone hadn’t already swooped in to take his heart. Despite what most assume, Sammy will happily admit he fell for Joey first and practically knew he’d held such feelings for the man since they shook hands during his interview. He knew Joey was an artist, a man with a strong vision, and wild imagination the moment he saw him.
Joey could always find a way to make the wild and fantastical so real, Sammy couldn’t think of something he’d rather do than bring his characters and stories to life with music. He takes great pride in the work he does too, in fact when he first was hired at the studio he was a one man band. He still brags about those days when the staff was rather small and he was the only music producer making instrumentals for cartoons that at the time had no lyrics or words in them. Who knew how fast the production would grow in such short time, with voice actors, songs that now needed lyrics and Sammy knew just the man to write them.
Of course Sammy had to pick his childhood best friend Jack Fain, the two had been a musical duo before their studio days after all and if anyone could help him, it was Jack. The two always had each other’s backs, even when Sammy’s home life pushed him out of the home and onto the streets, the two stuck together. Of course Sammy saw it coming. His rather religious parents never truly approved of their friendship but he didn’t care, finally getting out of that hell of a house also allowed Sammy to change his body to match both his current name and identity. Sure surgery isn’t the kind of thing to try doing when you’re an amateur but for Sammy, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
With such a rough childhood and upbringing, it’s no wonder Sammy was so quick to adapt to the lifestyle he has now. Becoming the kind of elegant and respectable music director the investors love, so long as he and Joey are subtle about their behind the scenes romance of course. Sammy has all he could’ve ever asked for when he was younger, a loving, charming husband and a studio that truly values his work... What more could anyone need?
Wally Franks
Wally Franks, truly the self appointed class clown of the studio, he’s a great janitor not just because of how hard he works to keep the studio looking nice all on his own, but because he’ll also do it with a few sassy remarks and a joke to keep moral up as he does. After all, a cartoon studio is the last place to bring a bad mood or a frown as far as he is concerned, or at least that’s the sort of thing he’ll say whenever Sammy’s not anywhere near.
Yes, the janitor of Joey Drew Studios is quite playful and a bit of a loudmouth. With a friendly tip of his hat and a couple of quips, Wally either makes a very good or very bad first impression on most of his coworkers the second they walk through the door. One such coworker was the beloved Susie Campbell; On her first day on the job it was Franks who helped see her to the music department, his remarks and general goofiness seemed to really endear her and the amount of kindness she showed to him despite his status stuck with him. Oh, she was quite the gal and of course Wally quickly found himself hopelessly in love, causing his best friends to shake their heads. Far as Franks cares though, they could tease all they wanted, he and Susie love to dance and giggle their way through life... And god is she lovely when she giggles...
While those two have sweet chemistry that cannot be matched by others, Susie is far from the only close friend Wally has, as Franks has friends in high and low places. Those two being known as Norman Polk and Shawn Flynn, one working up in his projector booth keeping those important machines operating and the other down in Heavenly Toys creating toys for the enjoyment of children. Norman doesn’t seem to know how he ended up falling into the company of Franks, however he wouldn’t give it up for the world and appreciates the janitor’s company... even if he won’t admit it out loud.
Flynn on the other hand knew he and Wally would get along from the moment they met. They share a love of jokes and a need to lighten the mood whilst on the job that their coworkers aren’t always a big fan of. However, one of the traits Shawn most values in Wally is his honesty and need to stick up for what he believes is right, even when many of his coworkers write him off for just being the janitor. He overhears more than they think, especially since other people often have a hard time taking him seriously when discussing sensitive information around him. Shawn and Wally both know how hard it can be to understand that while a lot of their coworkers like them, they don’t really tend to respect them due to the jobs they chose. If anything’s off however, Shawn knows Wally won’t shut up about it until it’s resolved, no matter how dismissive people get towards him.
With a heart of gold and cheery attitude, Franks is sure to brighten the mood of his grumpiest coworkers or die trying! The studio will be looking clean either way and hopefully with his presence, he can bring a few chuckles to his friends while he works. Those people can keep complaining all they want! But if they don’t start appreciating all the hard work he does around here? He’s outta here!
Susie Campbell
Excitable, bubbly and with a touch so delicate she’ll melt your heart, is that Alice Angel? Nope! It’s the voice behind the beloved cartoon Susie Campbell! Though you’d be forgiven for such a slip up, yes Susie does quite love being Alice and using it to perform some lovely method acting with her coworkers. She can always be found around the music department singing a tune, talking with her coworkers or even dancing her way to the recording booth.
Yes Susie is quite the gal, but she’s not one to admit it, while she’s sure the connection between her and Alice is special... Susie sometimes admits she’s not used to playing the star in a show and she’s shocked she got the role. Even being shy or dismissive towards some of the wonderful compliments she gets about her performance as Alice. Some chalk it up to being humble while others of the staff think Susie deserves more credit than she is willing to give herself... Not to mention her taste in men, but that’s not super important her best friend Allison will gladly tell you, maybe a bit too eager to move onto a different topic while Susie gives a playful glance to the janitor.
Despite her seemingly simple to grasp character Susie can be very surprising with how mischievous, devious or even spiteful she can be sometimes. She of course never means any harm, the gal will happily tell you she is a bit of a troublemaker when she’s drinking, out with friends or even just a little too caught up in whatever thrill she’s having in the moment, but nothing too bad has ever come of it. At least that’s what she claims, after all every angel has a little bit of a devilish side right?~ Well give her a few shots and Susie will reveal hers with a few giggles and a lot of stories you’ll never forget.
Despite it all Susie is quickly getting used to the attention being one of the stars of Bendy’s cast brings! She loves the feeling of no longer being cast aside or ignored for her peers who the acting world and society deem as far more attractive and ‘healthy’. The spotlight is on her and she’s adapting to it with a giggle and a playful wink. It’s all she could ever ask for, a character she connects to and an audience who loves her, perhaps dreams truly do come true, even for girls like her.
Norman Polk
Norman Polk, a man not looking for trouble, just someone who enjoys the dark and quiet. He’s a man of few words and his general demeanor combined with his bulky build makes him an obvious choice for a great projectionist. Besides what Norman lacks in conversation or lighthearted jokes, he makes up for with his general intelligence and insight into the studio no one else has.
It’s rare for someone to be having a conversation or doing an act with any intrigue around it that Norman doesn’t witness, he’s very quiet when he walks and his tendency to simply stop in his tracks and stare at others until he finds a good time to speak startles many. Norman doesn’t intend to intrude nor scare others, he’s just always been different in a way that unnerved a lot of his peers growing up. He doesn’t know why he was born like this but he tries not to complain about it, not out loud at least, it can be helpful when used right and for someone as curious as Norman he finds it comes in handy to go unnoticed occasionally. After all the man has always carried an ominous feeling to him in general and his rather strange sense of humor only worsens it. Jokes about death and injury are often said in his usual dry tone, to the point where most simple pause in shock until Polk chuckles and moves on.
Norman isn’t keen on giving any hints as to what goes on his head either, furthering the mystery for reasons that are anyone’s guess. So whether or not Norman has a genuinely disturbed mind remains a topic of debate among the staff, but regardless of his rough surface, he has many friends within the studio and is rarely seen as intimidating by those who know him.
Henry is a popular example of one of Norman’s friends, in fact their close friendship is rather well known among the staff. While at first it can seem strange to observers that such an every man would enjoy hanging out with such a mysterious figure in the studio, the two share a lot in common. Neither of them enjoy the spotlight and would much prefer the role of being backstage away from sight and they share a quiet, curious demeanor that tends to contrast the more exaggerated personas of their coworkers. The two can often be seen having friendly chats in the break room and giving each other a friendly smile when they pass each other in the halls. Henry seems to enjoy Norman’s humor and laid back nature, and Norman seems to stare fondly at Henry whenever he can get a laugh out of the artist. Of course Norman denies any accusations of such behaviors, but actions speak louder than words and he knows that more than anyone. He just can’t seem to stop himself sometimes...
With all the mystery and darkness that surrounds him, Norman can be surprisingly comforting and kind to the people who befriend him. His rough exterior hides so many secrets and while he’s not keen on sharing any of them, he’s by no means unfriendly. He might be a man of few words, but they’re usually wise words and most of the studio has a great deal of respect for him. He’s infamous for the strange demeanor and darkness he coats himself in sure, but at the end of the day he is one very bright man and anyone who denies it would be a fool.
Thomas Connor
Thomas Connor, the most reliable engineer and one of the wisest souls in the studio, you would be a fool to not respect him for the important work he has done. The man who helped create the infamous ink machine while not as much of a character as a lot of his coworkers, still has his rather interesting aspects. One of the most obvious being his lack of an arm, the amount of people who underestimate him due to being disabled always has Connor shaking his head but you can all rest assured he does his job just fine without the extra limb. To those who are more invasive about the lack of an arm, “I was born this way” is the only answer that awaits them.
Despite the rough exterior, Thomas is a very soft spoken man, he rarely raises his voice even when mad and his calm attitude is surprising, considering what he deals with on a daily basis. He may grumble and complain, but not much else, even when being prodded for a reaction. There’s few things that get on Thomas’ nerves enough for him to voice frustration, one of which is being disrespected and another is disregard for safety regulations. It’s no wonder with that knowledge that Thomas and Wally have butted heads quite a few times.
The old mechanic has been trying to lend Wally a bit of advice when it comes to dealing with the pipes of the ink machine. Though it seems all the knowledge given has been in one ear out the other, considering the amount of times the stairwells been flooded alone. Connor rolls his eyes and tells everyone that kid is hopeless, but half an hour later he’ll be doing his best to teach him again, which is either very kind or very stupid of him. The two of them have their problems with each other sure, but their care for each other is strong and they’ll always have each other’s backs. Even as Norman jokes about Thomas having adopted himself a son in Wally, Connor will huff but leave his response unsaid.
Norman can think what he wants to think, so can Scott for that matter.
Yes Scott is an interesting character in Thomas’ story. An old friend of his, back from when the war was raging on and they were both brought on board as mechanics for it. The two quickly found themselves gravitating towards each other when they had off time, chatting and joking amongst themselves. Scott always loved hearing about what Connor had on his mind and Scott’s jokes were needed to take their minds off the reality of the war around them. When the war finally ended the two men met again working under the elusive and powerful Nathan Arc or at least his company Gent.
The two were happy to catch up on what had been happening in both their lives, Scott bouncing from job to job but hoping to stick with Gent as long as he could and Thomas had mostly found himself struggling for work until he found Gent, but the reason why was so obvious neither men said it out loud. No reason to rub it in after all... Hoping to put their struggles behind them for the night the two hit up a bar with a friend of Scott’s. The oh so bright accountant and occasional office worker; Grant Cohen.
The chemistry between the two was instant and Scott could tell, he had a bit of a feeling they would get along but he had really outdone himself this time. Grant and Thomas loved to talk to each other, even the most mundane of conversation topics became fun to discuss when it was with each other. Thomas’s grumpy but caring nature endeared him to Grant a lot and Thomas was surprised by how bold Grant could be in admitting his attraction to him. When Thomas ended up as a mechanic in Joey Drew Studios, Grant found the strange stories he would come home with very entertaining and when it became clear Joey needed someone to help him both manage the finances and legalities of the studio, Thomas knew exactly who to suggest for the job.
With a good head on his shoulders, his wonderful husband and a love for the studio and the people in it, Thomas is one of the best employees Joey has. His loyalty should never be questioned and despite his gruff nature, he cares deeply for his friends and the family he has made in Joey Drew Studios. Anyone who underestimates his strength, his care or the great work he does is simply foolish. He’ll go to hell and back for this studio and if anyone’s gonna be giving up on it anytime soon? It sure as hell ain’t gonna be him.
Grant Cohen
Practical and quiet yet quick to get frantic, the stress of managing the financial information of Joey Drew Studios clearly gets to Grant sometimes, especially when Joey has gotten himself excited over a promising new idea for a project. Perhaps he was long overdue a retirement, but Grant insists his paranoia is no symptom of old age and if there was anything he would hate more than long stressful investors meetings, it’d be not having something to stress about! Cause to him, if there’s nothing to worry about, it only means he’s forgotten something on the way to his desk.
Mr. Cohen’s paranoia streak is not restricted to matters about his job either, his husband Thomas of all people knows this. There are weeks where he seems to spend almost all of his time working and even in his off time Grant finds himself worrying about the studio. The man’s mind just seems to bombard him with constant worst case scenarios, with little instruction on how to prevent them. It’s usually able to be kept under control long as he takes a moment away from the cause of stress, but there are days those around Grant worry his paranoia could get the better of him in the wrong situation... Then again some of his coworkers give him plenty of reasons to be uptight.
One of them being Wally Franks, the young man’s reckless nature and actions sometimes make Grant feel he is either incredibly brave or stupid. In fact the way Wally acts reminds Grant of a younger version of himself at times; while he never was as social or loud, he knows the way foolish acts can land you in a hospital. Mr. Cohen does try his best to discourage Wally’s more foolish habits, like jumping down the stairs to save time, but the young man insists he will be fine. Grant knows that this time he will be, but there are days the only thing on his mind is the day he will gamble his life and lose.
Yes Grant will admit he has a habit of feeling responsible for his younger coworkers actions and he does his best to help ones like Wally get rid of bad habits, but his efforts occasionally read less as compassionate more as condescending. This has earned Grant the ire of folks like Shawn, who prefer their more relaxed approach to work from Grant’s tendency to overwork himself into a panic. Which while not untrue, is quite rude to say to his face and Grant finds it silly someone who occasionally drinks on the job thinks he’s doing so much better than him. The two disagree on a lot and while Grant does his best to be polite, there are many days the toy maker tests his patience...
With a sharp style, dread forming in the pit of his stomach and his extreme dedication to his work, Grant feels cautiously optimistic for what the future of Joey Drew Studios brings. He knows the way Joey is about new projects, his love for theater and dramatics but most of all the passion Mr. Drew puts into this studio. Despite his complaining and anxious rambling, Grant loves the studio, its staff and wouldn’t give it up for anything. After all, in this studio there's always big stuff coming, adventure and fame and the like.
